How can you consistently compare storage products based on
performance and price-performance?
SPC benchmark results provide that information for a wide range of
storage products. Each SPC-1 and SPC-2 result has been both audited
and peer reviewed for compliance to ensure consistency.
An Executive Summary and Full Disclosure Report (FDR) for each
SPC benchmark result is available for download and review. SPC
membership is not required for access to those documents.

SPC-2 Benchmark Specification and
Initial SPC-2 Results Released
The SPC has approved the initial public release of the SPC-2
specification. The public release of the benchmark was announced at CMG 2005
(see below) on December 6, 2005. An initial set of SPC-2 results has
been submitted for release and the Full Disclosure Report for each of the
SPC-2 results is available in the Benchmark Results section. That
section has been updated to provide a brief overview of SPC-2 as well as
SPC-1.
Congratulations to the SPC-2 Technical Subcommittee, chaired by Bruce
McNutt (IBM), for providing the new specification and also to the four
member companies (Fujitsu, HP, IBM, and Sun) who submitted SPC-2
results immediately after the release of the benchmark specification.
If you would like to be notified as the SPC benchmark results are
released, please
register with the SPC. If you are interested in participating in the
release of SPC benchmark results, you should consider joining the SPC. Membership
will give you access to the Members portion of the SPC website. There
you will find benchmark specifications (official and draft), access to all
SPC benchmark tools, minutes from SPC meetings, proposals for future
benchmark development, and much more.
SPC at CMG 2005
The SPC participated in the Computer Measurement Group conference (CMG 2005)
on December 4-9, 2005 in Orlando, Florida. The SPC presentation's major
topic was the announcement of the initial SPC-2 benchmark results and the
initial public release of the SPC-2 specification. In addition, a
preview of a future benchmark designed for storage components was presented
as well as the status of SPC-3 development.
The presentation is available for viewing and download in both PowerPoint and PDF formats.
